How I Stay Organized

Hi all,

Today I’m sharing my organizational tips! These help me stay on top of things and ensure that everything gets done efficiently.

  1. Making a list for the week: This helps me see exactly what needs to get done during the week, and when I will have time to complete each task. Once this list is written, I’ll then place the items in the weekly view of my planner.
  2. Making a list for the day: I don’t necessarily do this every day, but when I have a lot to get done, I like writing everything down to make sure I don’t forget anything. I write this list directly in the daily box in my planner. It’s so fun crossing items off the list once they are complete; it gives me such a sense of accomplishment!
  3. Thinking/planning ahead: Whether it be for the blog or for school, I like to look ahead to what I’ll need to do in the upcoming weeks/months. This allows me to plan my writing/studying accordingly. I’ll jot down major tasks or events such as blog posts and exams as soon as I find out about them, that way I can start prepping for a post or start studying far enough in advance.
  4. Using my planner: I write everything down in my agenda/planner; my lists, my events/tasks, my work days, that way everything is one place.
  5. Making time for both school and blogging: When I know I have lots of homework or studying to do, I plan my week or day to make sure I have enough time to complete both blog-related items as well as my school stuff. For example, I’m back to working weekends, and since I work 9-5, I don’t really have time to do any school work on the weekend (plus I’m way too tired/drained after work). Since blogging doesn’t take as much out of me as school work does, I might choose to spend a couple of hours Saturday night to work on blog posts. Alternatively, this semester I’m in class Tuesday, Wednesday night and Thursday, which means I have Monday, most of the day on Wednesday and Friday off. I’ve already decided that Wednesday will be a study day, and Monday will most likely be as well, but I figure I’ll be able to spend at least a few hours on Fridays to work on blog posts. Finding a balance is key!
  6. Make time for myself: We sometimes get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to relax and take some time for ourselves. Some days I have to make sure to include this as a task on my list to make sure I actually do it, but I always try to find time to myself, whether it be watching an episode of a show on Netflix, or reading a few chapters of my book. Having this relaxation time to look forward to at the end of the day keeps me motivated to check every item off my list.

Ringing in the New Year right!

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, I got pretty sick right after Christmas but I’m so ready to get back into the swing of things!

I wanted to share what I’m doing/some of my tips to ‘ring in the new year right’. I don’t always set resolutions because I don’t always follow through past two weeks into the year, but I like to do certain things that help me make the transition into the new year a good one.

  1. Getting a new planner/agenda. Organization is really important to me; I have to write everything down to make sure it gets done. My mom gave me this Kate Spade agenda for Christmas and I love it. The colour is amazing, and the writing space for each day is large enough for me to fit everything I need to onto it.

  2. Reflecting on the past year. I like to take a few minutes to think about my favourite moments from the previous year, and moments that challenged me. Doing this makes me so much more appreciative of all the opportunities I’m given, and makes me think of things that I could do for self-improvement.
  3. Eating healthy. After multiple Christmas dinners and the Christmas-cookies-for-breakfast days, I definitely need to get my body back into a healthy state. To do this, I love to load up on fruits and vegetables. Back to eating salads for lunch (with chick peas and cheese-yum!) and oatmeal for breakfast.
  4. Clean out my room. I actually did this about a week before Christmas but this is probably the tip that is the most rewarding to me. I really don’t think there’s anything quite like the feeling you get after you organize and declutter your living space. Plus it can make room for that after Christmas shopping 😉
  5. Make travel plans. I spend hours a week browsing the internet looking at different destinations and trips that we can take in the upcoming year. Even though these might not always actually happen, I do find it fun to imagine that I could actually be going to that five star resort. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to once school is over for the summer. We’re thinking of going somewhere warm and tropical this summer and we are so excited!

  6. Setting goals. I like to set some goals to make sure that I always have something personal to work on during the year. I’m still coming up with those for 2017!
  7. Making a financial plan. I’ve always been the type of person to save my money but in the last year and a half, I felt like I’ve spent more money than I probably should have. So this year I decided to make a specific plan; to put a certain percentage of my pay checks directly into my savings account, that way by the end of the year, I know I will have X amount of money in my bank account.

Thanks for reading & I hope you enjoyed this post!

Gift Guide For Her

Hi all,

With Christmas quickly approaching, I wanted to share a gift guide for ‘her’. There’s something for everyone on your list: mom, daughter, sister, best friend, girlfriend, etc. As you can see, I love pastels & glittery things.

  1. Gold diamond necklace from Mejuri. I found out about this company on Instagram and I love their “mission”. I think this is such a great staple piece; it’s classic & understated and will go with every outfit. I think it’s relatively well priced for gold and a diamond.
  2. Kate Spade Rose Gold Crossbody bag. I love rose gold, can you tell? I think this bag would be great to dress up any outfit & would be lovely for a special event/night out. Plus it’s on the less expensive side of the Kate Spade handbags.
  3. Kate Spade Cameron Street Metallic Tavy mini wallet. I have a similar mini wallet and I just love how practical it is. I can carry it in my small crossbody bag, as well as in my large work bag. Plus, this colour is so fun.
  4. Twik sweater. I have this in white (you might recognize it from a past outfit post) and it’s probably the most comfortable sweater I own! I think it would be flattering on every body and this colour is understated & would be great for spring.
  5. Chunky infinity scarf. I think these are such a staple for winter; they add so much to any outfit.
  6. Kate Spade Cedar Street Maise. Michael got me this bag for Christmas last year and I love it! The size is perfect; it fits quite a bit, and I obviously love the colour, given it’s a bright turquoise.
  7. Fossil watch. I love Fossil when it comes to watches. This is one of their new colours and I think it would go with a lot of different outfits.
  8. Swell water bottle. I don’t have one of these yet (wink wink mom), but I’ve heard great things about them & I LOVE this colour! They have so many other great colours & patterns to choose from.
  9. Steve Madden rose gold sneakers. I have these in black and love them so much I added these to my Christmas “wish list”. I love this colour, I think it could go with almost everything. They do run a little bit small so I’d recommend to size up half a size.
  10. Ray Ban sunglasses. No matter how many pairs of sunglasses I buy, I always feel like I need more. I love styles that are different and that stand out. These come in a few different colours as well!

Thanks for reading, I hope it gave you some ideas to treat all the women in your life!

Neutral Sweater Styled 3 Ways

Hi all,

Today I’m sharing how to style a plain neutral sweater 3 ways: for the office (+ a small variation), for a night out and for a casual day. I bought this sweater at Forever 21.

The details for each outfit are at the end.

  1. For the office: I paired the sweater with a blue & white striped dress shirt underneath, making sure to stick the collar of the shirt over the collar of the sweater. I tucked both of these into black dress pants and added silver flats. I’m using my work bag: the Kate Spade Cedar Street Jensen.

Variation: Replace the dress pants with black jeans and keep the dress shirt and sweater untucked for a more casual office look.

2. For a night out: I paired the sweater with black jeans, black patent heels, a gold statement necklace and a black cross body bag.

Kate Spade Cedar Street Jensen Bag Review

Hi all,

Today I wanted to review this amazing purse: the Kate Spade Cedar Street Jensen.

This was my first big purchase (other than my second hand car) and my first designer handbag. I bought it about a year and a half ago after having started a new job. I wanted to treat myself. I had been lusting over the Tory Burch double zip tote in the luggage colour, but couldn’t take the plunge, as it was very expensive. I saw this one on the Kate Spade website and went to the newly opened Kate Spade store in Ottawa and when I saw it, I knew this was the bag I wanted!

Since then, I have gotten a few other Kate Spade handbags all in the saffiano leather and I am so impressed with the strength and durability of this material. The bag feels so sturdy and so structured; it doesn’t feel like it’ll ever give in.

dsc00740-20161014

Look– this style is so elegant and classic, I’m sure I’ll be able to carry this over into when I start my “real job” when I graduate from university in a few years. I just love how the bag is completely plain, except for the gold rectangles that secure the straps onto the bag. The Kate Spade logo is in gold as well, so it really ties in with the gold from the little rectangles.

Practicality– at first I was kind of worried about the fact that the middle space is opened (there is a snap closure), but I just LOVE the two zippers on either side of the bag. I keep my wallet in one of these zippers, so it is never in the middle compartment, where it could potentially be taken out. If I ever have to carry around school notebooks, they fit perfectly in one of the zippered pockets, which is really nice, as it also gives the bag a little bit more structure. I’ll keep my makeup bag and water bottle (or any other little trinket) in the middle section since these item are bigger and more likely to stay put.

There are also three inside pockets, two that are open and one that is zippered. The two open ones are the perfect size for keys and a pack of gum. I’ll put more “valuable” things in the zippered one so that they don’t fall out.

Comfortability– I’ll rarely put the bag over my shoulder but it is comfortable when I do so. I just prefer to carry it in the nook of my elbow; I find it easier for me to reach into it with my other hand if I need something.

Random– I love that it has feet underneath so when I place it somewhere, I know that the bottom of the bag will not have directly touched what was probably a very questionable surface. It’s then super easy to clean. Another great point is that since it’s saffiano leather, it can be cleaned super easily. Just one swipe with a Lysol disinfecting wipe or with a wet paper towel and it’s like new! Last thing, I love that despite it being structured, it’s also very malleable. When I go to work, I put my lunch bag directly in my bag and the bag “stretches” to accommodate my lunch bag.

I honestly love this bag so much. It was quite a splurge but I don’t regret buying this at all. I have used it almost every day for over a year and that just in itself is worth the money to me. I know that I’ll be using this bag for many more years to come, as it will never go out of style. A superb purchase! And as you’ll soon see, I’m kind of obsessed with Kate Spade  ;).

Thanks for reading & have a great weekend!
